Bryan, 63, became a driving instructor 18 years after leaving the armed forces and got stuck in a sedentary lifestyle which saw him changing his eating habits and quickly gaining weight.
One day, he released he was unable to put his own socks on with both hands and decided it was time for a change.
Bryan also noticed he easily became breathless, and his limbs and bones were painful after little exercise.
He recalled: “That moment for me was sitting on the edge of my bed trying to put on my socks.
“First trying with two hands. Then with one hand. It felt as though I was trying to lean around my midriff.

diet weight loss story“It was such a struggle that I became really agitated at not being able to do such a basic everyday task.
“I did for one second contemplate using a tool such as a helping hand to put my socks on!
“At that point, I decided to fix the problem and not just accept and work with the problem,” he admitted.
Bryan decided to join Slimming World and started following its Food Optimising eating plan which consisted of normal, everyday foods.

He explained: “I just love a cooked breakfast, so when I knew that turkey bacon, beans, grilled tomatoes, fried eggs and sausages could still be on the menu, I was hooked.”
While following a diet he loved where he could enjoy his favourite foods, Bryan decided to go even further and incorporate a bit of exercise into his daily routine.
He started walking 5k, slowly building from walking to running over time and finally completing a five-mile run, three times per week.
Feeling fitter and healthier, Bryan decided to pick up his love for golf again, walking a 7.5k course, three times per week.

“Five stone lighter, I can’t imagine not doing it now and would miss it. I feel as fit as a fiddle now and not only have stopped my breathlessness, taking time for me and moving more makes me feel better about myself too.”
Bryan told Express.co.uk he just feels “great” now. “I can quite easily put my socks on now – in fact, I can now touch my toes whilst stood up,” he proudly announced.
He added: “After losing the weight I found it more simple to participate in different physical activities. Golfing, running, riding… have all become regular activities in my life.”
Bryan’s confidence has also improved after losing weight, and while before he didn’t feel great in his own skin, he feels completely different now.
“I feel a lot more at ease going out to a restaurant knowing that I can now look at the menu and pick what works for me,” he said.
He added: “Seeing family and friends always brings out good comments ‘you’ve lost a load of weight’, ‘looking good’ or ‘you look great’.”
Bryan lost an impressive five stone in just 10 months, from March 2021 to Christmas 2021, following the Slimming World eating plan.
