Emma, 46, decided to lose weight after seeing pictures of her at her niece’s wedding. She recalled: “Looking at the photographs I didn’t recognise the person I had become, I looked so unhealthy, my body shape and the shape of my face didn’t resemble what I wanted to look like. Seeing photos from behind or sitting at the table was awful. That was the wake up call that I needed to get control of my weight and fitness.”
Emma was so upset after seeing the photographs that she decided to make changes to her lifestyle and joined her local Slimming World.
She explained: “Walking into Slimming World in July 2021 and meeting my consultant Nikki changed my life. I couldn’t carry on the size I was.”
Emma followed a personalised diet which consisted of eating normal everyday foods like Chinese chicken curry and the best part for her was that she could eat together with her family, and also eat out.
She also enjoyed attending the slimming group talks, where she received the guidance and support she needed to achieve her weight loss goals.

Since joining the group and starting the delicious meal plan, Emma lost 7st 10lbs. After eight months, however, she decided to increase her activity levels.
The dieter started to work out before work every day: “I went to my local leisure centre and started swimming and walking before work and gradually built on this, adding an extra length at a time if I could, to build on my progress.
“I also aimed to go a little further with each of my walks and added pace. Someone suggested at the leisure centre that I should check out their gym, so I did.

“This helped me to build up my fitness levels even more, and when I saw classes advertised too, I thought why not give them a go, and I loved them – I was hooked!”
Emma now practises body attack, spin, body balance and SH’BAM six times a week and still swims too.
She explained: “I was worried that I was putting pressure on my joints at my heaviest weight and a few years ago I hurt my foot and was on crutches. It took 18 months for my foot to heal, and my doctor said that being the weight I was wasn’t helping the healing process.
“A year on from starting my weight loss and activity journey, my outlook has completely changed.

Emma admitted it hasn’t been just her weight and physical appearance that has changed, but also her mental health and overall happiness.
She said: “My life now is totally different, everything has changed, I am so much happier in all aspects of my life from what I see in the mirror to my fitness.
“It’s not always about what number the scales say but fitting into clothes I like. I have so much more energy, I need less sleep, I am able to keep up on family walks and love working out, something I would never have thought I’d say.
“I used to avoid being in family photos and was always taking the pictures. When I had to be in pictures I would hide at the back or take numerous shots at different angles trying to look slimmer. Now we take a quick picture, and I’m happy first time, again this never happened before!
“Going to events and walking into a room not feeling great as I didn’t really like my outfit are in my past.
“I used to hate shopping as I was really limited on sizes, now I am able to go into any store and buy what I like!”
