Winston-Salem is getting a new fitness center.
O2 Fitness will open a new O2 Fitness Signature Club in the former 30,000-square-foot Stein Mart location in Thruway Shopping Center in early 2023.
This will mark the first O2 Fitness club in Winston-Salem and the fourth in the Triad. O2 Fitness currently has two open locations – one in Greensboro’s Friendly Center and one in High Point’s Palladium Shopping Center – with a third location in Burlington’s New Market Square set to open in a few weeks.
O2 Fitness is partnering with Saul Centers to update the east-facing side of the building that will serve as the primary entrance for the fitness center. The fitness center will also work with STITCH design shop, a Winston-Salem-based architecture firm, to design the interior of the space.
“We have loved serving the Triad and we have been looking for the ideal location in Winston-Salem for years. It’s safe to say that you can’t find a better spot than the iconic Thruway Shopping Center,” Michael Olander, founder and CEO of O2 Fitness, said.
Thruway is located at 300 S. Stratford Road and is home to Trader Joe’s, Harris Teeter, Dewey’s, a HanesBrands retail outlet and a host of other high-end shops and restaurants.
The O2 Fitness club at Thruway will feature over 150 pieces of fitness equipment and three studio spaces, including a cycling studio. A large group fitness studio will be outfitted with performance flooring for exercise classes such as BodyPump and Zumba. The fitness center will also house a Mind-Body room for yoga and barre classes.
In addition to cardio machines and free weights, the O2 Fitness Club will have more than 2,200 square feet of athletic training turf.
Renew Physiotherapy and Wellness, a partner of O2 Fitness, will have an office within the Thruway location.
The standard monthly membership cost for O2 Fitness Signature clubs is $69, which is all-inclusive. Doug Warf, president of MDO Holdings, O2 Fitness’ parent company, said they will offer “founding membership” rates when pre-sale begins in a few months.
Every member will receive two free sessions with a personal trainer and has access to complimentary sessions each month for follow-ups.
“It’s truly an elevated health and fitness facility that’s designed with various workout zones to help everyone – from those just starting their fitness journey to those who’ve been on the journey for years,” Warf said.
O2 Fitness also wants to serve more than just the fitness needs of its members.
The club will include a co-working space with a conference room, intended to provide members with a place to take a call or host a small meeting.
The Thruway location will also have a kids club, so that members can work out while their kids can play safely and learn about active lifestyles.
“As more offices move remote, we love the idea of our co-working spaces and kids clubs providing more freedom to our members,” Jessica Martin, regional vice president, said. “Behind their homes, we truly want our members to view O2 as their ‘second place’.”
O2 Fitness has 14 other locations across North Carolina and South Carolina, including in Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Durham, Wilmington and Charleston.
