A nurse practitioner with more than eight years of health care experience has opened a business unique to most of Illinois outside of Chicago.
Holly Pennell, a Jacksonville native, opened Cloud Nine Aesthetics in early July at 307 E. Court St., where she offers treatments such as Botox. She will begin offering IV hydration in August. Services are available by appointment only.
Pennell is interested in holistic medicine, which is about prevention, as opposed to traditional medicine, which is more about fixing problems once they’ve occurred.
“It’s better to fix problems directly rather than being put on a bunch of medications,” Pennell said.
Outside of several locations in Chicago, there is a scarcity of downstate locations that offer the services Pennell does.
“I know people who drive several hours to get holistic health care,” Pennell said. “So, I know there is a need in this area. And there is nothing like this in the area.”
She started offering Botox treatments for cosmetic purposes and medical issues such as TMJ disorder, which can cause pain in the jaw joint and the muscles that control jaw movement.
IV hydration with vitamin infusion treatments will focus first on energy and second on hair, skin and nail health. Benefits are felt almost immediately, Pennell said, and the treatment can be repeated every two weeks.
Pennell said she has had a good response from customers. Her ultimate goal is to operate Cloud Nine full time, have registered nurses who help operate the clinic, and be open Monday through Friday. She still is working full time as a nurse practitioner affiliated with Springfield Clinic.
Pennell has a master’s degree in nursing and is a certified nurse practitioner. She has experience in emergency medicine and intensive care settings.
“I think what created my interest in this direction was patients looking for alternative solutions,” Pennell said.
By fall, Pennell hopes to expand her services to offer a cosmetic procedure called microneedling, also known as collagen induction. It involves pricking the skin with tiny, sterilized needles. The small wounds cause the body to make more collagen, which can heal the skin and help the patient look younger.
Long-term, she wants to be certified in anti-aging medicine and holistic medicine and offer treatments for infertility, hormone imbalances and weight loss.
Appointments at Cloud Nine Aesthetics can be scheduled by calling 217-370-1552 or going to bit.ly/3zJdjx5.
