Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial for people of every age group. However, losing weight gets difficult post-60. This happens because as we get older the pace of our metabolism decreases. Even though it gets tougher to shed off a few pounds after a certain age, it is not impossible. The golden rules of weight loss are still the same. The only difference is that our focus shifts from hours of intense gymming and experimenting with diets to calming down and doing things in a moderate amount.
Speaking of which, nutritionist Karishma Shah recently dropped a post on her Instagram space where she addressed the same and shared the solution. Furthermore, she talked about the necessity of altering the diet to obtain optimum results in her caption. “Nutrition needs vary with age and gender. Now you’re older, the foods and drinks that make up a healthy diet may need to be slightly different from when you were younger. In general, you’ll need less of some foods and more of others,” she penned.
Listed below are the tips shared by the nutritionist that you must follow to maintain a healthy weight:
Rely less on convenience food:
Consuming fast food, processed food or any food that is associated with weight gain should be avoided as it can hinder your weight loss venture. This is because convenience foods lack essential nutrients in addition to being high in calories.
Stay strong by doing strength training:
It is natural to lose muscle mass after a certain age. Hence, it is crucial to offset that by doing strength training. In order to do this, you can do weightlifting at the gym. Make sure to lift lighter weights. Furthermore, you should do yoga or Pilates. Another reason why muscle mass training is important is that it plays a vital role in burning calories.
