MIDDLETOWN, CT — Planet Fitness recently celebrated the grand opening of its new location in Middletown.
The new club, located at 840 Washington Street, is approximately 21,000 square feet and offers state-of-the-art cardio machines and strength equipment, among other features. Planet Fitness invested $2.7 million to open the club and better serve the greater Middletown community, according to officials.
The grand opening celebration began with a speaking program that included remarks from Planet Fitness Vice President of Connecticut Operations, Mike Shapiro; Middletown Mayor Benjamin Florsheim; State Senator Matt Lesser; and Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce President Larry McHugh.
“We’re thrilled to offer our new club as an affordable resource for mental and physical health and wellness to Middletown-area residents,” Planet Fitness Vice President of Connecticut Operations Mike Shapiro said in a news release. “The support received from the city, local state officials, the chamber, and other community members has been such an encouragement, and we look forward to getting more ingrained in this thriving city.”
Middletown Mayor Ben Florsheim said, “We are so excited to welcome Planet Fitness to our community. Middletown is a health- and wellness-oriented community that knows how to have a good time, so I am confident that Planet Fitness will do well here. And with easy access to transportation, new shops and restaurants, and our vibrant Main Street, I know that Planet Fitness clients will find lots to love about Middletown.”
As part of its commitment to the Middletown community, Planet Fitness donated $1,000 to the Middletown Police Activity League (PAL) and is offering special membership discounts to students, teachers, and first responders through the rest of the month, the news release states.
The event also featured local Middletown businesses and vendors, raffles, giveaways, and more.
“Middletown PAL is very excited to partner with Planet Fitness,” Middletown Police Department Captain David Godwin said. “We thank Planet Fitness for their community outreach and programming for our Middletown youth.”
In addition to state-of-the-art cardio machines and strength equipment, the Middletown club “offers a 30-Minute Express Circuit, numerous flat-screen televisions, fully equipped locker rooms with day lockers and showers, HydroMassage beds, massage chairs, and more,” according to the news release.
The facility will be open and staffed from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
