CJ Stroud has worked on more than just his passing this offseason. The Ohio State quarterback recently shared that he has hit multiple fitness personal records as he has trained to get ready for the 2022 campaign.
“I feel the best I’ve ever felt in my life,” Stroud said, per Cleveland.com’s Stephen Means. “I (hit my personal record) in squat. I PR’d in bench. In my running, I forgot the mileage I hit, but I PR’d in that. I’m the fastest I’ve been since I’ve been alive.”
Means describes it as Stroud deciding not to simply rely on his phenomenal arm talent. In 2021, Stroud was 317-of-441 passing for 4,435 yards and 44 touchdowns. Those passing numbers made Stroud the first player in Big Ten history to be named its offensive player, quarterback and freshman of the year. He was also, of course, a Heisman Trophy finalist. Stroud, though, did not have much success running the ball. His net rushing stats show 32 carries for negative-20 yards.
If Stroud decides to run more, long-time OSU strength coach Mickey Moratti deserves some credit.
“It’s pretty cool to see Coach Mickey (Marotti’s) mindset and his thought process,” Stroud said, per Cleveland.com. “When you get here, you really don’t understand. But now, since I understand, I’ve definitely seen the growth not only physically but mentally as well.”
An even more dynamic Stroud could be scary for B1G defenses in 2022.
